MVSPSP Version 1.50 Released

December 9, 2006

Taken From QJ:

Time flies by so fast, don’t it – oh, wait, v1.42 was just very, very recent. And now, just now, Jungle-Cat tips us off that NJ’s releasing MVSPSP v1.50. And that this could be, probably will be, the final version of his NeoGeo emu that he’s releasing to the public. Maybe.

Okay, it’s kinda confusing that the two download files below, the regular MVSPSP v1.50 and the kernel version of the same, would have “final” included with their file names. But translating what NJ had to say on his site using the ever-somewhat-but-not-completely reliable Google weblator: “MVSPSP is renewal end with 1.50.” We’re kinda leaning with the interpretation that MVSPSP is renewal end, literally, with this latest (and last?) release.

Because the Readme was written in Japanese – and, uh, we don’t have Japanese language support in our word processor, so it comes out Egyptian instead – we’ll go with what NJ also said at his site which sounds like the changelog or bug list for 1.50 (anyone wanna help us out with this?):

You wrote also in the past, but the fact that it has the case where same period of sound and the picture slips, because noise that tries does not ride especially and the sound which prevent the decrease of effective speed to the utmost to be the result of compromising, because it is specification, please be patient. Because there is no air which you correct, if it seems that becomes matter of concern, this with each one modification.

gpSP v0.8 Kai 2.5

December 9, 2006

Taken From QJ:

Takka’s been twisting a few more nuts and bolts around his little mod to Exophase’s gpSP. kai v2.5 corrects a few more bugs reported in the previous version/s, and also comes in 1.0., 1.5, and eloader. Here are the bug tweaks and new changes from the Readme:
Addition of simple/BUGGY cheat function (not perfected, though)
Bug correction of VRAM write (thanks Mr.130)
Bug correction of SRAM size automatic operation judgment
Trouble correction of “Kirby Star Kagami no Daimeikyuu” (thanks Mr.5/Mr.104)
replacement Right channel & Left channel (thanks Mr.96)
Trouble correction of “Medarot Navi” (thanks Mr.5/Mr.104)
for eLoader
Division loading of over 8MB ROM
over 8MB ROM doesn’t ZIP compression
Clock Speed 300MHz/Bus Speed 150MHz
For those of you new to this scene, the original gpSP was a blue-sky project that quickly became a gold standard for PSP emulation because of its ability to emulate some popular GBA games at full speed, a feature that hadn’t been pulled off until then (although it did come at the price of compatibility with other games…). Later improvements sought to expand the list of compatible games, as well as add/improve the other features of the emulator.

Dark Dungeons v 1.6

December 9, 2006

Taken From QJ:

For the past couple of weeks, we’ve had a bit of a trend going on with most homebrews. Seems like everyone’s in an FPS-funk lately. With Charnold’s PSP Dungeons 3D out on its sixth version, lots of homebrew developers followed suit. We’ve been getting mods from other developers who’ve brought their own twist on Charnold’s FPS masterpiece.

Be3f is one of those guys. While his last Dungeons game was from way back last September, Charnold’s v6 got him working once again. His own take on the said FPS homebrew is now running as Dark Dungeons v1.6, and we can truly say how far he’s improved his project.

Here’s what’s new in v1.6:
all new v6 features (3D weapons with flying bullets, invisible triggers, 2 new maps…)
4 new re-textured levels (2 from Dungeons v6 & 2 built by BlackShark); some old levels were modified; new textures.
new enemies! I replaced Ranger & Razor with the monsters Klesk & Uriel from Quake 3 :P
new rail gun model… I mean, old rail gun model… Well, I replaced that strange rail gun model, which I found in the Dungeons, with the original Quake 3 rail gun :P
some new gfx (new rail trail and original Q3 plasma particle)
new boot picture added to the EBOOT

Taken From QJ:

So what’s new in this Dungeons mod? VettaCossX says in his post at the ZionMax forums that he’s fixed the green master chef head, added a red 3D halo model, and polished and smoothed existing changes. The image he provided above is pretty cool, dont you think?

Daedalus Shifty Beta 1

December 1, 2006

A New Release Of Daedalus just tops it up for this week, as the creator of daedalus’s friend brings out a new release!

Taken From QJ:

Yeah, we hear everyone clamoring for Daedalus’ R9 release from StrmnNrmn and Wally’s recent Spiff Up seemed to fill the unsettling N64 void. Operative word, of course, is “seemed”. Because, face it, despite how we all love Wally’s “spiffy,” one can’t help but wonder about Daedalus itself. Is Daedalus daed dead?

Here’s to hoping that it isn’t. funk_man was able to obtain Daedalus Shifty Beta 1 from his friend in school: homebrew programmer Shifty. funk_man attests that the games he’s played on it have definitely sped up. It’s still not full speed, but he comments that it’s faster than StrmnNrmn’s Daedalus R8.

Here are some notes from Shifty:
only roms in .z64 format will run at high speed
all other rom files have some what slower speeds, but load textures better
some .z64 files have textures that don’t load, like the water in Mario 64
As for Daedalus, StrmnNrmn better make an appearance soon before more and more people get restless. This Shifty Beta 1 release is to hoping that all that restlessness would subside (at least for now). Besides, it’s got a speed-up. And we know how much all of you’ve commented that that’s one of the most important things you’re looking for.

Cheers to Shifty and shout outs to StrmnNrmn! Keep this emu alive!

iR Shell Back With Version 3.0!!

December 1, 2006

iR Shell Screenshot

Absolutely great news, as one of the best homebrew for the psp returns!!

Taken From QJ:

All of us mourned the news about Ahman stopping development of iRShell. But then, just a little less than a month ago, we discovered that Ahman was still at work improving iRShell to make it even better than it was currently. And personally, I expected nothing less than a knocks-your-socks-off release. The day has come when we can finally lay our hands on the best PSP shell ever released.

And are we impressed? Well, that would be a huge understatement to say the least! Ahman has made the best PSP shell even better, in the only way he can – dumping a truckload of features, and making all of them work great in tandem. Obviously, I haven’t had a chance to check out all of the features in there, but just for convenience sake, I’ll list them from his documentation:

New Features:
Added “Mute Game Audio” funtion via R-Trigger+Circle or last menu item. This will bring up an Audio Channel Menu which allows you to mute each individual channel. Example, you can mute the in-game music and leave the sound effect. Pls also note the iR Shell MP3 Player is indicated as “MP3 Player” in the menu and can’t be muted.
Modify the change CPU settings, so that it won’t cause system hangup even if a game is running in the background. When you change the CPU speed and a game is in the background, you will see the screen flashes which is normally. Pls also note that the change of CPU speed under devhook environment has been removed, which means you can’t change CPU speed within iR Shell when running devhook.
Allow redirection of PSP keypad to PC Keyboard or PC Joystick via USB or WiFi (usbhostfs or nethostfs). You can, for example, use a Xbox/Xbox360 gamepad with 2 analog sticks to control movement and aim in a FPS, like Syphon Filter. You can choose “Redirect Keypad to Host” via usbhost0, nethost0, both, or No Redirection under iR Configurator.
Allow pmf movie as splash screen. Use iR Configurator to choose startup splash type, including bitmap file, pmf movie or no splash. The included skins do not include any pmf movies, you’ll have to download them separately. The PMF player has been enhanced to support movie clips with resolution lower than 480×272.
You can now launch 2.71 XMB from iR Shell under firmware 2.71 (Real 2.71, devhook 2.71 or 2.71 mode of SEB”). With host redirection, you can view host video using 2.71 XMB video player, mp4 & avc are all supported. Photo & music redirection won’t work. You can also use the built-in iR Shell MP3 player after launching XMB.
Updated the launch XMB function, so you can leave the game disc in the UMD drive when launching XMB. It will now detect your disc type. If you’ve a UMD Video disc, it will launch the movie automatically. If it’s a UMD Game disc, it will skip the auto-launch and just goes to XMB.
Allow the use of the 4th brightness setting (maximum) on the LCD. Normally, you can only set the 4th brightness when connected to a power adapter. This version allows you to activate the 4th brightness anytime by pressing “Left Trigger + Brightness”. The setting will also carry over to Devhook firmware emulation when iR Shell is active. To return to normal brightness, press “Brightness” button.
When installing skins, iR Shell will also install “splash.pmf”, “logo.bmp” & HELP image files from the skin directory. A default set from /IRSHELL/SYSTEM will be used if any of these are missing in the skin. The logo.bmp is now unprotected, so you can use any 480×272 bitmap file as splash screen. You can skip Help file installation via iR Configurator option “Skip Help Files Installation”, this may be useful if you’ve customised language specific Help files and don’t want to be overwritten.
Changed the maximum number of plugins from 10 to 20.
Changed the maximum mp3 playlist size from 10 to 30.
Changed the maximum highlighted files from 10 to 30 for File Manipulation
Added firmware version indicator icons provided by StoneCut.
1.5 – Running under firmware 1.5 (both virgin 1.5 or 1.5 mode of SEB)
2.71 – Running under firmware 2.71 (both virgin 2.71 or 2.71 mode of SEB)
MS – Devhook emulation using Memory stick firmware
NAND – Devhook emulation using NAND firmware
This version includes the following plugins for 2.71 iR Shell which means you can open those file types under firmware 2.71:
Pmf Player (PMF)
Bookr 0.71 (TXT & PDF)
PMPMOD AVC 1.02 (AVC)
Atrac3 Player (AT3)
ZIP & RAR Unarchiver (ZIP & RAR)
Bug Fixes:
Fix the bug in unable to press Triangle under APP view if “Hide RDF Sub-directory” is on.
Fix the bug in unable to goto RDF View from icon menu if “Hide RDF View” is on.
Fix a serious bug which will crash your PSP if initial view is set to APP View.
You can associate an icon image to each sub-folder under APP view. Name your icon image as “icon.png” and place it inside your sub-folder. Example, /PSP/GAME/$Emulators$/icon.png

For the full changelog and instructions, please make sure to check out his guides in the zip file. The guide, by the way, is nothing less than a multi-page PDF file detailing each and every feature or iRShell v3.

The 2.82 firmware is now being put on your PSP.

PSP Dungeons 3D 0.6 Released

November 26, 2006

Via QJ

Before we go into the topic at hand, this writer just has to say… dang, this game looks grrreat! I mean seriously, the graphics are so kickass you could easily mistake it for a UMD game. And based on the responses that we got when we posted PSP Dungeons 3D v0.5, I think it’s safe to say that I’m not the only one who thinks this way.

Kudos to Charnold, the awesome coder responsible for bringing us this FPS, and for telling us about this new update he’s made on the game. Now, if you weren’t able to catch the previous versions, then you’re probably also unaware that in addition to giving the game 3D-rendered environments, Charnold also decided to extend his generosity to fellow PSP users by sharing with us a map-making kit for the game. Pretty awesome, huh? So anyway, here’s the list of stuff that’s changed in v0.6:

Changelog:

* 3 default button control sets
* now you can actually see and evade the enemy shots :-)
* player and enemies use 2 different weapon types with separate bullets
* maps can have different door textures per level, hidden doors, invisible switches and a switch can open multiple doors (thanks to JEMdev for the ideas!)
* enemies can kill each other
* faster rendering of the 3d models

PSP Revolution v0.3 Anime Style v5

November 26, 2006

Source: QJ

Woohoo! MonkeyBoy1916 is at it again with his mods for DeNitro and Devin923’s DDR-for-your-fingers, PSP Revolution. Now coming up with his Anime Style v5 mod, players can look forward to happy days ahead which involve playing a game which uses our favorite anime tunes (and with the deluge of Dark_AleX releases, lately, one can’t help but wonder if all this is a Thanksgiving treat, or an early Christmas present).

In any case, MonkeyBoy1916 has also pointed out that this isn’t the final release of this version as his work was temporarily stopped because of an unfortunate PC problem. According to him, there should have been a whole lot more features added in this release such as more songs and better graphics, but that would have to wait for the meantime. He also mentions that he wishes to be able to make full use PSP Revolution 0.3’s new features, so let’s see what he comes up with in the weeks ahead.

Some of the changes that he made for this version are:

  • Updated to PSP Revolution v0.3
  • Eboot Completely redone ( Song/BG/ICON )
  • Main Menu Redone
  • Song Select Menu Redone
  • Failed Screen Redone
  • New Score Screen, Updated for v0.3
  • Options Text Edited
  • Loading Bars Redone
  • Some Song Backgrounds redone
  • Some Song Banners Redone
  • Other Graphical Changes ( You will see )
  • 28 Naruto Songs Added ( Just so many good ones, I couldnt resist )
  • 5 Bleach Songs Added
  • One Piece Anime Added, with 1 Song ( More to Come )
  • Gundam Anime Added, With 2 Songs ( More to Come )
  • FLCL ( Fooly Cooly ) Anime Added, with 7 Songs

So, what can we say? At the moment, the only thing coming to mind would be “Sugoi~~!!”
